Planning decorations that suit your venue
Decorations work best when they support the mood and give the room a clear focus. Start with one main idea rather than a shopping list of every detail saved from different inspiration galleries.
Choose an anchor for the design
Decide on a palette, atmosphere and the area guests will notice first. It could be the entrance, cake table or a place for group photographs. Show the decorator a few examples and explain whether you like the colour, lighting, materials or arrangement. Include photographs of the actual room. The design needs to fit its size, height and existing features while leaving routes for guests, service and planned activities.
Check setup and collection
Agree on access times, installation time and who collects the decorations afterwards. Discuss fixing methods with the venue before a structure is prepared. Request a list of included items and ask how the layout could change if tables move. For a photo area, consider the direction of light and the background behind it. Compare the final plan with the host’s programme, so a decorative feature does not occupy the clear space needed for an activity.
